Classic Cars – What Makes A Vehicle Attain Vintage Status?

The makings of ‘classic cars’ is often a source of debate. Oftentimes, a car is considered to be classic if the public deems it to be ‘collectable.’ Some, however, may seem to contend that there is only a certain period for classic cars–that the ‘real classics’ were only up to 1940’s for example.
Still, some may even try to categorize car models into eras. Thus, we have the muscle car era, the bullet era, the box-type era, and so on. A more precise classification is one which sets up three categories according to which year the cars were manufactured. These are the antique cars, manufactured from 1880 up to the start of WWI; vintage cars, made between 1916 to 1924, and was the start of the real ‘automobiles;’ and classic cars, from 1925 up to the near past.
If you are confused on whether that old hunk o’ junk in your dad’s garage could be worth something, here are some easy guidelines which you can use.
1. Year Manufactured
This is the easiest measure of whether a car is classic or not. You can easily know what year the car is manufactured by checking the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Several sites on the Internet could produce all a car’s details simply by entering its VIN.
If you are new to the concept of classic cars and would want to simply start your own collection, deal with the year loosely. What I mean is, don’t listen to those uptight talks from car enthusiasts about the ‘real’ era for classics. If you find a sweet-looking 10-year old car, you might as well treat it as a vintage vehicle. The reason for this is simple: car values appreciate over time. Well, that is, if you find a right car.
2. Number of Units
An important measure of a car’s “classic-ness” is the number of units that were manufactured and are still in existence. An 80’s to 90’s Corolla could hardly be defined as a classic, since it was mass produced and proliferated all over the globe. But a first-generation Corolla could have some value somehow, since very few people still have it.
A ‘55 T-bird is an example of a high-valued classic car, both for the year in which it is manufactured and the number of units released. Ford released only a little more than 10,000 models.
3. Relevance
Not all old cars could be considered as vintage. I personally believe that the title of ‘classic’ could only be conferred to those cars that have represented a generation. A Volkswagen Beetle, though many people may have it, is a good classic car simply because it carries so much history with it. Along with the Type 2 (the VW Van), it represented the hippie generation. And in contrast to that, the Beetle was also the most popular car for the Nazi elite. Those two contradicting layers simply create a very historic vehicle.
Cars could also be considered relevant if they are seen in TV and movies, as they tend to carry some fond memories of a generation. An 80’s Pontiac Trans-Am is not just another high-performance car–it will always be seen as KITT in Knight Rider.
If you have an old car in your garage, you might want to research a bit about its history. You might be holding a valuable gem, and you’re just letting it rust away. And if you just love vehicles and automobiles, maybe you ought to go retro and collect classic cars. Not only do they appreciate in value, they also carry great pieces of history.

Upon their first appearance in 1955, Thunderbird classic cars have been a favorite of both car buffs and regular folks alike. The very first Thunderbirds were compact sports cars that screamed speed, style and class. Four-seater designs didn’t evolve until the late 1960’s. Thunderbirds were only two-seaters between those times. This classic was built with a V8 engine and could reach top speeds of 110-120 miles per hour.
The Ford T-Bird, as it was affectionately called, came in many different colors, the most popular of which were apple red and pure white. They came to represent the entire 50’s decade all on their own, most certainly a turning point in American society.
But why are T-Birds considered “classic cars”? Probably because for most, they take us back to an innocent yet anxious age. A bygone era that was filled with angst not only in themselves, but being the McCarthy era, for the entire country as well.
Obtaining Thunderbird Classic Cars
So you want to know how you can get your hands on one of these classic beauties? Here are a few options:
-Car Clubs. Check to see if there is a local T-Bird club in your area. You’ll not only find out easily if someone is selling their Ford T-Bird, but you’ll also learn from others how to restore one.

-The Internet. Craigslist, (look beyond your own city, if you’re willing to fly to the location, pick it up and drive it home), Ebay, other internet auction sites.
Evolution of Thunderbird Classic Cars
-Classic Birds. The earliest years, between 1955 and 1957. This era is also known as “Early Birds” and “Little Birds”
-Square Birds. Between the years 1958 and 1960. It was at this time the convertible was introduced.
-Bullet Birds. Between 1961 and 1963. Called bullet due to its speedy and sleek style.
-Flair Birds. Between 1964 and 1966. The T Birds at this time were designed with less speed, but more “flair.”
-Glamour Birds. Between 1967 and 1969. These T Birds are the easiest to locate and are named such because they were built more luxuriously, and the convertible top disappeared.
There is some speculation as to the original source of the name, Thunderbird. Some say the Ford Thunderbird was named for a Native American mythological creature, and there’s another, less exotic story about the classic car being named for upscale housing tract in California called Thunderbird Heights.

Are you an investor looking for ways to make your money make more money, have you considered investing in classic cars, the classic American and classic British cars are a good choice for you, if you spend some time, and do some research you could very well be pleasantly surprised at what you find, a lot of these cars are now worth ten or more times there original value, you’ve just got to think, how many investments you know of can do that.
Back in the day a HEMI 1970 CUDA sold for around $3164 and today you could not touch one of these cars for less then $150,000, and that would be an extremely good buy, I recently seen one sell for $1,500,000 at auction, and this is not uncommon for this type of muscle car, not to long ago I was out reading up on pricing of these car, and I ran in to a 1969 ZL1 camaro that had just sold for $880,000 at auction, this car from the factory went for around $7,000 when it was new.
While these were very special cars that the factories didn’t build a lot of, if you do some research you’ll find that there are still some good investments to be found in the automotive world, if you have some money to start with, you can do very well with these cars; I could go on for about a hundred years with a list of American and British cars to invest in, but I’ll just keep things short and to the point.
If you haven’t looked in to this; you may think that I’m just up in the night, or you might even want some of what I’ve been smoking; I have done a lot of research on these old cars, and I’m here to tell you, I am not up in the night, I have spent most of my life studying these cars, and during my studying I learn certain things, and in a lot of cases things even make me go HHHMM what is going on around here, how could this be.
I haven’t only seen this type of thing one or maybe two times, I have seen it over and over again, if your an investor and you have an interest in cars, it just might be the right time to start throwing some of your cash at the classic car industry, or at least look in to it a bit more, if you have a favorite car, or favorite manufacture; do some research on the car or manufacture that you love, chances are that there was some special version of you favorite car built, and that would peak your interest HUH?
