Car Modifications

Before I’m going to reveal some easy ways to increase gas mileage, let us do some calculation how much you can save if you can increase your gas mileage 10%. Imagine if you are spending $200, 10% will result in $20 a month which is $240 a year. This means that you can actually fill your gas tank for another month for every 10 months. This really sounds incredible. Just imagine when you can increase your car gas mileage by 20%, 30% or even 50%. Here I’m going to share some ways to increase gas mileage.

Lighten Your Load

It has been estimated that for every extra 100lbs, it will increase your gas consumption by roughly 1.5%. Many people have unnecessary things stored in their cars, either under the seats, in the car drawer et cetera. These unnecessary things will cause you few dollars a year. By just removing these, you will be able to increase your car gas mileage slightly.

Use Synthetic Motor Oil

You will be able to increase your car mileage about 5-10% if you use synthetic motor oil when you are changing your motor oil. You can have this done easily by the mechanics.

Avoid Unnecessary Braking or Do Not Drive Too Close

You will lose some energy whenever you brake. One easiest way to avoid such unnecessary braking is not to drive too close to the car in front. By doing this, you can actually slow down without braking.

As aforementioned, everyone knows how to increase gas mileage. However, the sole secret to increase gas mileage is to take action. Please do not be procrastinate and think that it is very troublesome to do so. You will be surprised how much money are you wasting if you do not take any action.

Our new bug out vehicle is a Dolphin Motor Home which has some 116,000 miles on it and it is still running strong. It takes a lot to kill those old 22R Toyota engines. We purchased our Dolphin for use as a BOV in the early part of 2010. It is a model 400 which places the sofa behind the driver seat and the bathroom in the rear. Like anyone else who owns a motor home we take pride in the modifications that we have planned for our Dolphin BOV. All modifications listed here are planned for our own use only and we will not be responsible for anyone else’s use of these modifications.

One of the first planned changes will be to replace the standard rear view mirror with one of JC Whitney’s Day Night Rear View Mirrors (Model 18410G). This unit costs only $17.99 but replaces the existing windshield mounted mirror easily. It is available in three different widths and is approximately 2 inches high. It comes with a black housing complimented with distortion-less glass. It features an adjustable stem. All you have to do is flip a switch in order to change from a normal day time view to a reduced glare night time view. The unit mounts to the original bracket or you can use the enclosed mounting bracket. Detailed instructions are included.

We all want to be able to back-up safely in our RV’s so the second modification will be to install a back up alarm with flashing lights (Model 1JA 141147). This particular unit mounts under the rear of the RV at a cost of only $17.99. This is a low cost, dependable back up alarm that will help prevent possible injury to others while backing up the motor home. The unit mounts easily over the bottom edge of your rear license plate or you can mount it anywhere on the rear of your RV. It is encased in a durable ABS plastic housing which is about 9

I have come across a lot of car stereo systems over the past 10 years or so. There are so many “techniques” to installing head units. Everyone has their own opinion of what is right and wrong when wiring up a system, but just because it works doesn’t make it right.

I asked Majestic Modifications what their opinion was on the subject. How do they install so many units and always get it right?

First, if applicable, always use the harnesses. The aftermarket wiring harness will usually take the guesswork out of the installation. These harnesses attach to the vehicle’s factory wiring harness and gives you a color coded installation. You just attach red to red, yellow to yellow, etc. But is that all an installer should know?

Starting with your digital multimeter, find the power sources in the harness. One source will be continuous 12 volts, the other will be the ACC (ignition) 12 volts. These two will go with the yellow and red wires from the aftermarket head unit’s harness. They are labeled accordingly. It is usually a good idea to attach the ground wire to the frame of the dash. A lot of head units come with a connector for this already attached to the ground wire. Secure these in place with some solder and shrink tubing. Slip the shrink tubing over one of the wires to be connected and move it out of the way. Connect the wires and dab a little solder on the wires. Let cool and then slide the heat shrink tubing over the connection. Heat with a heat gun/hair dryer to shrink the tubing to fit.

You can try to look on the internet for the wiring colors, but good luck. They will tell you the “typical” wire colors, but chances are it will be different. You can try two techniques to find the right wires. Clip the rest of the wires from the factory harness. You can test the speakers with a good 9 volt battery to see which speakers are which. Two wires connected to the same speaker will make it pop. Note which speaker makes the pop and attach it to that speakers wiring from the head unit. I like to turn the unit on and make sure the wires are the right polarity. A reverse wired speaker will not have as good a sound as a properly wired one. Continue the technique until all the speakers are connected.

The other way you can trace the speakers down is to turn on the head unit, but be VERY careful to not cross any wires. Start with a pair of wires, and attach them one at a time until you get sound. Note which speaker it is and attach it to that speaker’s wires from the wiring harness, taking not of polarity. Continue until all the wires are in place. Zip tie the wire together and neatly tuck them behind the head unit.

Be sure you have a good ground wire connection. Be sure that RCAs or signal wires are running away from any power wires or sources, and are not run parallel to them.

If you want a neat trick, you can attach the 12 volt acc to the illumination wire, and you will be able to turn the unit on with your parking light switch. Take note, that anytime the unit is on, the dash panel lights will be on too, but you won’t notice them in the daytime. The illumination wire is used to turn the factory radio lights on at night.

Not having the wiring harness for your vehicle is not a do or die situation. If you can get the harnesses, save the hassle and time and use it. If you find yourself in a bind, then follow the steps above and get it installed correctly.

Those who are talented with their hands will know that there are a lot of Four Wheel Drive Accessories that you can fit to your car with a reasonable amount of ease. Whether or not you make the accessories yourself is a totally different ball game, but a lot of people will do both of these. Some of the 4wd modifications that people make and fit themselves include bull bars, sidesteps, rear bars, tyre carriers, rear drawer setups, overhead consoles, extra lighting in a vehicle, snorkels, exhaust systems, body lift blocks and a huge range of other bits and pieces

Of course, the level of skill that you have and the equipment that you own will largely decide on whether you can do this, but a lot of it isn’t that difficult. If you want to have a crack give it a go; you will save a massive amount of money if you build something that is reasonable quality. The best thing about do it yourself modifications on your vehicle is that you can make them to suit your car in every possible way. A lot of the standard items that you purchase from the store are not exactly what you need, and on top of this they are incredibly expensive.

Bar work is quite easy to knock up if you have a grinder, safety gear and a welder. There are a huge number of designs available on the internet, and the same applies for rear drawer setups, tire carriers and various other modifications. Generally the finer modifications are left to proper manufacturers (roof racks, spotlights, extractors etc.

Car modifications are loan modifications that help you better afford your monthly payment. If the idea of a loan modification scares you, then you’ll be relieved to know that many people go through this process and it helps them fix their credit and avoid repossession.

Car modifications involve several steps. First, you have to be behind. Lenders don’t negotiate loan modifications with people who are making their payments on time. If you’re keeping up right now but you fear falling behind in the future, and currently your credit is good, you might choose refinancing or loan consolidation instead. Or if your car is worth more than you currently owe on it, you could simply sell it to pay off your loan and purchase a car that costs less with smaller payments.

But if you are falling behind and you’re having financial difficulties in keeping up with your car payments, then you’re the perfect candidate for car modifications. Your credit doesn’t matter because it’s expected that when you’re in a hardship situation you’re going to have credit problems. If you try to refinance with poor credit, you either won’t get the refinancing loan or the interest rate will be higher than you expect making it not worth your time or money to do so.

If you look for a car loan modification, your lender will want to see proof that you really are in a financial mess. If they can look at your financial records and see that you have plenty of money for the car payment but you’re squandering it away, they’re not going to want to grant the modification. They usually have a limit as to how much extra money is left over each month after all of your bills and living expenses.

If you have more than that amount left according to their calculations, you may not qualify.
So before you look into a car loan modification, it’s important to really examine your finances and make sure you can’t simply find the money for the payment in the amount you already earn. The lender will be looking at this information very carefully, so you want to anticipate that and make sure you’ve left no stone unturned.

Once you can prove that you are in a financial hardship, the terms of the loan can be renegotiated to lower the payment each month and even lower the interest rate so you pay less over time. These car modifications make it easier for you to make your payments on time. That means you’ll be accumulating less interest because you’re paying the loan down properly. And the modifications usually include a lower interest rate.

Thanks to all of this, you’ll stop having late and missed payments show up on your credit report so that your credit score can start to go back up. It’s important that you make other payments on time to help with this process. You’ll also avoid a car repossession which could seriously damage your credit for up to seven years and make it harder to get another car loan.
